Vermont Livestock Branding

Vermont brand registration is no longer a regulated activity. Livestock branding laws were repealed in 2023, and the registration of livestock brands is no longer required. However, while branding is no longer regulated, official animal identification through ear tags remains mandatory for livestock movement and sale within and out of the state. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags are now the required form of official identification for cattle and can be obtained at no charge from the Animal Health Department.
